Our Favorite Lion Photos

Lions are just amazing. I loved the work I got to do with lions in Zimbabwe. It has to be one of the biggest things I miss about Africa. Over 100 000 lions used to roam Southern Africa. Sadly today there are less than 20 000 left. Hunting is a major cause, although there are several responsible hunters who are very conservation minded, but the main cause is that the lions are running out of land. As populations grow and farmers use more and more land, there is less and less land for lions to hunt without being a threat to local populations. Tie that in with some hunters who are not conservation minded and over hunt areas and you are left with a sad decline in the number of lions in Africa.

Here are some of my favorite lion photos. I have several thousand on my Mac. This took a while to cut down to these few.

At some point I will put my favorite lion video online too.

Enjoy.

  2. Beautiful shot! The sixth one in the series, with the lion licking it’s mouth and looking directly at the camera with one still eating in the background, is my favorite.
